Originally from the D.C. area, by way of Austin, TX, Karen "Kay" Ross is a writer, director, actor, producer, and a champion for the inner teenager. Because who doesn't enjoy a rebel?
After starting her television career ten years ago - bouncing between true crime docu-series, food competition shows, and educational media for museums - she decided her heart was still in narrative storytelling. So, she moved to Los Angeles, became a professional reader so she could write, and ended back on set anyway. This time, independent film would pave the way to creative freedom.
Since 2019, she's been building up her development and production portfolio, including shorts, features, podcasts, and soon - books and comic books! During this time, she also discovered how she can give back to the entertainment community: by protecting the heart of every story, whether consulting, writing, or producing. Kay also believes in transparency and mentorship, so each project is a case study from which to elevate the sustainability and scalability of independent filmmaking.
Kay is available for writing and directing, preferring to work in the comedy / coming-of-age space. She also enjoys working with inclusive, diverse, and driven professionals, so if you're interested interested in working with her or joining in the Ethical Filmmaking Movement - don't hesitate to reach out!
